Massage Therapist Trying to Figure Out What Portable Massage Chair to Buy?

Question by sarabeth: Massage therapist trying to figure out what portable massage chair to buy?

I am looking to buy a chair to do onsite chair massage, I will be doing a couple of hours a week and want a good, sturdy, comfortable chair. The range in prices is so high, from dirt cheap to insanely expensive, and I was wondering what people’s experiences have been, what chairs are good, what to look for, what to avoid. Thanks for the input.

Best answer:

Answer by Scooch
If you are going to invest in chair massage as a business, then go with the Oakworks brand. It is sturdy, durable, easy to transport, set up & take down, and the customer service with the business is one of the best. The price range is a little higher than some, but you are definitely paying for a longer lasting product. Check the website for some deals or manufacturer send-backs. Most of the time you can save 20-30% off new if you are willing to sacrifice color choice, padding choice or maybe a vinyl fix-it that does not affect the use of the chair. I also recommend a carry bag for it to help haul, store and protect the chair and any supplies you may need.

I suggest this….

I think my wife paid just over $ 300 for her’s. Probably the best function, she said, were the travel wheels. If you’re going from event to event, you want to make sure the wheels will hold up. I know that has no direct relation to actual massage practice.

After that, make sure it’s fully adjustable and all that. Make sure it sets up quickly, with as few steps as possible.

Honestly, I don’t remember the brand but it has a cover and although my wife did not want to specialize or be known for ‘chair massages’, she was/is happy with what she purchased.

Keep this question open and I’ll find out tonight what she has and ‘edit’ it in. In the meantime, check out the link below.

Peace.

T

Edit….

‘Wife got “Stronglite”, http://www.massageking.com/products/Massage-Chair-Package/StrongLite-Ergo-Pro-Massage-Chair-Package/1175/1/1

She likes it 1) for it’s stability. When people get on it, it doesn’t wiggle around and 2) the knee pads come off for people that cannot bend their legs back. Some people cannot put weight on their knees like that.

She didn’t purchase it at the link above but the price was about the same.

Good luck

Q&a: Are Those Massage Chairs Worth Investing in As a Business?

Question by Martin C: Are those massage chairs worth investing in as a business?

Was looking around on the net for a business idea add on, already have a successful window cleaning business but was kind of thinking those massage chairs you see in malls and shops might be an easy money earner as an add on business, does anyone operate one currently or have done in the past and think its a waste of money.
These are the type of massage chairs such as the ones from thebackrubber.com whereby you buy 4 of them, set them up in a mall or store and people pay $ 1 for a 3 minute massage, just wondered if these work and were a good idea for a business, especially if someone out there already does this and makes excellent money from it. Not looking to start a wholesale business just a simple… leave the chairs in a mall come back a month later collect the money idea.

Best answer:

Answer by Godself
I have never run a business, but I have shared some of the responsibility of running of a business from startup to success and know a bit about profitable ideas.

The massage chairs to which you refer are manufactured by hundreds of companies around the world, but only a few have significant market share. 80% of the chairs are created by 10% of the manufacturers, so a business in manufacturing massage chairs would likely fail.

Wholesale distribution is in a similar situation. Each company distributes it’s chairs to a select few wholesalers, who then distribute to thousands of retailers. So a wholesaling business in massage chairs would also likely fail.

The Market is flooded with an excess of competition of retailers fighting for prime real estate in both the real world and cyber world, with big brands even struggling to provide any decent kind of range and supply of products.

I see only 2 options for you.

1) Start a small business in being the retailer that can offer the widest range of massage chairs in the world, having as many suppliers as possible on the books. Pay international shipping companies to ship a few items on demand from whichever supplier the customer orders (after payment up front) to bring their selected chair from the manufacturer to the customer’s front door by courier. You never need to see the chair personally.

2) Establish a massage chair delivery service, establishing contracts with hundreds of local retailers with advertisements in their windows offering delivery of their massage chair to their door and fully installed at a small surcharge.

Eventually these 2 businesses could be combined, making you a supplier of chairs to retailers and customers alike, becoming everyone’s friend. All you need to start this is a truck with a delivery driver / labourer, a contract with 1 major retailer that doesn’t handle their own wholesaling, and a commercial website for direct sales with a cyber manager to communicate with customers. This makes the business self-managed, which leaves you to travel the globe meeting representatives of massage chair manufacturers to establish trade relations.

Answer by themeathanger
I don’t think so, back in New York in the malls i have seen at least one and
they have always been empty. People walk right by them or just sit in them
and don’t put money into them. Have you thought of gumball machines?

Q&a: Are Shiatsu Massage Chairs Safe for People with Pacemakers or Have Had Heart Surgery?

Question by Heather S: Are shiatsu massage chairs safe for people with pacemakers or have had heart surgery?

Best answer:

Answer by moose
my husband also has a pacemaker and several disabling health disorders. When I contacted a spa to inquire about how safe it would be they wanted me to talk to one of their more experienced therapists. Maybe you could call the place first and ask them what’s their rule of thumb in this case. plus, you should check with the cardiologist.
BTW- we never did go for the massage because my husband wound up in the hospital again.

Answer by Vidya
I do not think they are unsafe yet I would suggest you to consult an expert before starting to use.

Answer by Dr. B
Most likely it is safe. You should check with the person’s Cardiologist to be sure, because they know the details of the person’s medical condition. A pacemaker would not be a problem. If the underlying heart condition is stable after surgery, then the person should be able to use the shiatsu massage chair with no trouble.

Are Massage Chairs Bad for Unborn Babies?

Question by lgraup: Are massage chairs bad for unborn babies?

Yesterday I was at the mall and used the massage chair for about 30 minutes. I was fine until about 15 minutes after leaving the chair. At that time my whole stomach cramped up and has been shooting pains ever since. This morning it slowly starting to fade until my morning sickness kicked in, now ithe cramps and shooting pain are back again. What I wanted to know is this normal? Has this ever happend to anyone else? Hs anyone else heard of massage chairs being bad for unborn babies?

I now know that I can’t use them during pregnancy, but I was wondering if anyone else found this to be true? If not, I was thinking that their might be something more that is wrong with me.

Best answer:

Answer by serenity
you should ask a docter about that since im not very sure.

Answer by Sarah B
You would think it would be good for you AND the baby. Massages are good for you because it relieves the stress on your back and good for both becvause it can increase blood flow. Ask your doc. Maybe you pinched a nerve?

Answer by curiositycat
If you can’t use them during pregnancy, that is the time period you have an unborn baby! So it probably isn’t a good idea, but I am not a medical professional.

Answer by JoesWifee
I have a shiatsu massage chair at home, but I haven’t used it since I’ve been pregnant and my back is killing me. I’m afraid to use it because it gives a really deep tissue massage and I’m not sure if that’s ok. I have, however, gotten a pregnancy massage at a spa. Getting a massage by hand is safer because the masseuse can control the pressure of the massage and you have special pillows to lay on.

Answer by joliefemme24
You CAN’Y use massage chairs while pg, it can cause the uterus to contract or when in your 1st trimester you could miscarriage. I do believe they have a warning sign where it says pg women can’t use them. Don’t do it anymore.

Answer by Randajane
Since you can not really control the pressure, the chairs are a bad idea. The number one goal of prenatal massage is comforting mother/child. An automatic chair can not do that.
The mechanical motions of most of those chairs can jar a person and creates a sensation similar to ‘shaken baby’, but the baby is protected in the placenta. Though it will not damage the baby, it is too much movement for the pregnant body.
Massage during pregnancy is wonderful, but it does depend on the mother. It is much debated whether or not one should receive any massage during the first trimester, since that is the time most women miscarry. Also, if the pregnancy is considered high risk, a doctor may not advise massage. But otherwise, massage benefits all the body systems, including increasing circulation, relieves muscle tension, and increases red blood cell count.

Q&a: Do the Vibration from Massage Chairs/pads Actually Massage Muscles?

Question by beingkristine: Do the vibration from massage chairs/pads actually massage muscles?

I’ve recently gotten one of those massage pads that you lie over a chair and sit on, while it vibrates all over your body.

I’ve realized that it’s just vibrations that cycle all over your body, and while it feels good, I can’t help but wonder, does vibration really massage the muscles, or relax them?

Thanks

I found this link a few days on answers.yahoo.com. This site really have lots of information about the cure of common ailments

Answer by kdr_cmt
Not so much, really. Actually, prolonged exposure to vibration is not all that good for you. If you use it for too long a time, it can cause your skin to feel numb and even give you a rash, and over time it can cause collagen to break down in the skin and even nerve damage. And besides that, it’s a machine. Need I say more?

However, using the thing once in a while for a short period is ok. The main thing vibration would do for you is stimulate circulation and feel kind of good.

Answer by _Justified_
because you are considered a minor under 18

Answer by Jyang772
So that they can sue you if you break the chair…

IDK

Answer by PS360
The chairs could hurt young peoples’ backs or damage them somehow, especially the children… and the store owner or company would be held liable if the young peoples’ parents pend a lawsuit.

Answer by John
Becuase they massage your back and your “area” and you have to be 18 to get that massaged..

Answer by joshdrmr
The massage can do more harm than good to a minor because their bones are still developing. The age limitation is mostly meant to keep young children out of the chairs because they’re not really tall enough for their heads and spines to be where the chair expects them to be. It would wind up treating the back of a kid’s head the way it treats a grown adult’s spine. It’s just easiest to draw the line at something solid like the age of legal adulthood.

Additionally, teenagers who come in just to hang out aren’t likely to actually BUY a massage chair, so they’d just taking up space that would be better occupied by someone who wants to try a chair because they’re actually in a position to buy one.

It’s not true. The electromagnetic fields aren’t a problem, and your baby probably gets more vibrations from your walking around all day than from your sitting in one of these chairs.

I don’t know. I used them with my 2 youngest, daily due to being tense from my factory job & uncomfortable due to the pregnancies.
